THEY PAID UP!

It took a while but I'm pleased to report that perseverance pays off.

Late October 2011 a settlement was reached which I'm glad to say did not leave me out of pocket... In fact I had a few pennies left over & celebrated with a bottle of champagne.

I speak to many people in a day & for sure those people, family & friends will be steering clear of Evans Halshaw which on top of their solicitors fees & my pay-out will have an impact on their business even though it may be small for me it's a victory.

    1. Sorry it's been so long, but for anyone else, you need to let them know in writing you will be taking them to court, giving them reasonable time to respond.
Make sure you send the letter Recorded Delivery.
Small claims is very simple & the court will give advice on how to complete form but not about the case.

  2. Hi
    Well done!
I have been having many issues with my car after purchasing from Evans Halshaw. Can I ask, how did you get started with complaining to them?

    Thanks

  4. I'm gutted at the service I received after travelling over 50 miles to the Mansfield garage. After signing and paying for my Peugeot, when I returned to collect it, the work hadn't been done and the extras I had been promised were not honoured. We had to take the car that day, but was promised things would be done and mats etc would be sent. This is a long story, but after many phone calls and e-mails since buying my car last Easter, they haven't honoured 1 thing they promised!!! Be careful ... don't take or pay for anything until you are satisfied. I have been lied to on several occasions they then stopped returning my calls and never responded to e-mails! A sad and stressful experience :(

  5. I have just had my car returned from Evans garage for an oil problem that occurred during warranty ( mid December) that I was told was all sorted, today 5days after expiry of warranty my turbo has broke which in turn broke engine , took it to a local garage to be told problem never fixed and this is the reason for the problems and they are responsible, 3500 grand to fix, now conveniently not returning call

    1. I bought the Audi A4 1.8T for £5100 (9 years old) all in, and flew from London to Glasgow (East Kibride)to pick it and drive it back to London. I thought I would have no immediate issues with the car as I was buying it from a reputable dealership (so I thought Evans Halshaw were) who have done adquate pre-sales inspections for non- mechanic customers but things quickly turned bad ….really bad!!!!.

1.On the way from Glasgow to London, the car broke down in the first 50 miles Took the car back to the dealership for inspection (a 100miles round trip). It turns up the mechanics had taken off the wheels for some reason and did not replace the front left properly so it was vibrating.

      2. Next day while handwashing the car, noticed most panels were corroded from inside out.

      3. an now an oil leak Audi informs had been seeping for months but not mentioned in the car service report they did 2 months earlier. Spend £250 on it but still there. Plus the car is corroded beyond repair on the underside. They must have known this but still sold me the car. Am not using the car and am persuing the case with Office of fair trading.

Any advice from anyone out there?

To all those contemplating buying a new or used car, my advice to you is to keep off Evans Halshaw forecourts. You cannot be sure for certain what you are buying!!!

  6. I bought a car from Evans Halshaw in October 2012 and everything went wrong with it. I have now got rid of it losing a lot of money in the process. Evans Halshaw are the worst company I have ever dealt with. Not only are the cars that they sell shit, but the customer service they have is awful. Their Dealer Principle laughed at me while I was trying to get a refund/fix the car and now he ignores my emails. NEVER buy from Evans Halshaw. I've lost roughly £1500 from that car alone!! They don't honour warranties and have called me a liar about the problems the car had. They're pish!!

    1. Kerry,
Are you not pursuing it further?

  7. How to complain:
    Be calm!
Make a verbal complaint explaining how you want to resolve the issue.
If no action taken, make a written complaint stating what has happened, when & how you wish it to be resolved stating an acceptable completion date.
If not done or not agreed to then write a letter (found on web) stating that if the issue is not resolved, you feel you have no alternative than to pursue via the small claims court, again giving a date that the application to the court will be made & stating they will be responsible for ALL costs.

The Internet is a great place to find help as are government web sites.

  8. Wow after all these comments on EH Im staying away. Maybe I should book a RAC inspection for 180 quid before purchasing. Could be the best thing I do!

We bought a grand Scenic from Queens Service station. Good set of lads, but there was a bearing noise from the gearbox. Cost me 70 quid to diagnose using a main dealer, so they actually refunded me the car in the end after quoting the Sale of goods act. It seems that car dealerships "think" they are immune to the law of sales. They are not, regardless of how much the car is. they need to sit up and look at themselves.

    Good luck people.

  9. I saw this website and forgot about the comment i made. I didn't take my own advice and bought a Citroen from them. Absolute rubbish. After months of complaining they took it back but we lost over 1200 quid. We agreed to exchange it and we agreed to transfer the warranty over too. Now we are trying to get that done after purchase. A new nightmare begins...
